an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest

About

Raindrops from water vapour

The Italian Opinionist is not a newspaper. It is a wide space in which ideas condense from the ‘Newsosphere’ to something useful to understand the world surrounding all of us. The noble purpose of giving a commentary on informations is not an error-free process. The due apologies are an integral part of every post of The Italian Opinionist, that (as the word opinionist means) has its own opinions and (as italian or) as human being is clearly not infallible. The facts are the root of all good and evil, if we’ll be able to consider the facts without generating artifacts our main aim will be achieved.

A window on the world, a glimpse of Italy out of the window

For whom the bell tolls? Priorities in local information are quite different from worldwide ones. Very often the bad habit of forgetting essential news in some country’s newspaper or TV programs is coupled with the belief that some informations are no audiece-oriented enough. We have no presumption of removing any ‘Maya’s veil’ from people’s eyes: The Italian Opinionist‘s purpose is to allow the reader to have a window more across the boundary between Italy and the World.

Umberto M. Meotto

“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest”
Benjamin Franklin

Soccer, gossip, a huge amount of news which say nothing important about what is happening just right now in our country and, moreover, in the whole world.
This is the snapshot of what can be ‘learned’ by a passive newspapers reader or TV watcher.
Let’s listen to the message of B. Franklin. What kind of interest can we get by a passive fruition of standard mass media?
We think that without an active interest the final balance will remain always with a loss: a great deal of time spent with no values back in return.
Is this a MUST? We think not. We can do something, maybe not to change the world, but at least to improve ourselves and the people, like us, who want to gain a lot through a smart use of their time.
Time: the most precious asset we have in our life, the only one probably we can’t store or reclaim back if we lost it.
We want to invest our time in learning about the world in terms of economic and social changes and events, curious and significant facts which can stimulate new ideas and new ways of thinking.
We would like to pay a little more attention to all the news often hidden or overwhelmed because of the huge amount of more sparkling news which cover the surface of daily information.
All this material exists! We want to quest it and share it among all the people that agree with us about their time investment.

We would like to provide our opinion, as italians, about italian and foreign events and news in the hope of receiving back ideas and thoughts belonging to people from all over the world with different habits, lives and points of view.
In this way, we think we can gain a lot by our time investment and maybe we can make you, reader, just a little bit ‘richer’ too.

Who are the Italian Opinionists:

Umberto M. Meotto has a Master’s degree in Materials Science accomplished cum laude in march 2003 at the University of Turin. His dissertation about Silicon Carbide diodes was part of a project between a research framework and the high power devices manufacturer International Rectifier Corp. He collaborated with Polytechnic of Turin and INFM (National Institute for the Physics of Matter) then he moved to the industry world having a contract with ST Microlectronics. Now he’s PD Engineer in the Central R&D of memory solutions supplier Numonyx working on the most advanced semiconductor technologies.

Elisa Camozzi has a Master’s degree in Physics (accomplished cum laude in April 2004 at Università degli Studi – Milan-Bicocca) and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (accomplished cum laude in December 2008 at Università degli Studi - Milan). The first thesis (physics) was the result of one full-time year of research work in the field of biophysics (dissertation titled : “Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy applied to the study of intacellular interactions”). It was an interesting field but Italy’s situation as far as research is concerned made her move to the industry world having a contract with ST Microlectronics. Now she’s PD Engineer in the Central R&D of memory solutions supplier Numonyx working in the field of NAND memories. In the meanwhile different interests and curiosities (not completely satisfied by scientific studies) bring her to the passion for philosophy, with a preference for philosophy of science, theoretical philosophy and all studies and new discoveries concerning human mind, knowledge and man’s interaction with the surrounding world. The dissertation (titled: “Alla ricerca della mente sulle orme di Bergson. La conoscenza: hardware vs software” – “In search of mind on Bergson’s tracks. Knowledge: hardware vs software”) was an attempt to understand the better way to define human mind and knowledge (hardware vs software) connecting the thoughts and theories of some of the most important thinkers and scientists of the last two centuries such as Freud, Einstein and Bergson.
