In the days leading up to the Tiananmen anniversary on June 4, government censors shut down social networking Web sites such as Twitter and Flickr and blacked out cable news channels such as CNN when they aired stories about the Tiananmen anniversary.

The article on Houston Chronicle point out that young chinese people don’t know what happened 20 years ago and maybe the even don’t care to know. Chine is becoming more similar to Western modern democracy as far as the economical model is concerned but not in the political frame. Moreover consumism seems a perfect way to divert young people’s attention from more critical questions such as the freedom to know their past.
